Kitchen Design Tips
Bright colours work well in small kitchens because they manipulate the kitchen’s content to appear big even though it is not the case. If you are tired of a small kitchen, but can not build a bigger one; here are some tips on how you can decorate and utilise the small space and make your kitchen appear bigger.
- First decide on an interior decorating theme that appeals to you but will also improve a small kitchen. Steer clear of having too much clutter in the kitchen as it makes the already small space seem even smaller. Choose a design theme that doesn’t clutter up the kitchen.
- Painting your small kitchen white is not the answer to your space challenge. So if you like bright and deep colours you can have them without making your kitchen seem even more cramped by decorating with a monochromatic colour scheme or where the colours are the same intensity. You can make your kitchen blue, combined with even green or purple as these colours are the same intensity.
- You can add depth to a rather small kitchen by painting an opposing wall a more intense, deep tone. This will create the effect that the wall is further away and gives your now “bigger’ kitchen an interesting charm.
- Keep your furniture small and medium sized.
- The way you arrange your furniture in a small kitchen also plays a key role in the making the small space appear bigger. Furniture must be placed away from the doors giving one easy access to the room and make it look bigger at the same time.
- You will need cabinet space for storing utensils and oven mitts so rather hang up your pots, pans and oven mitts. This creates more space in a rather smaller kitchen.
- Glass doors combined with light colour cabinets will make a small kitchen look bigger and more spacious.
- It is best to have the kitchen tiles placed in a diagonal position.
- Consider deeper counters that can accommodate appliances to provide space in your kitchen.
- Install lightning under the cabinets or counters. This will create more light for your kitchen and a spacious look.
